Board diversity statement
STARS is committed to the promotion of a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace and this commitment begins with our volunteer Board of Directors which serves as the governing body of the organization.
Governance principles and global best practice indicate that the best results are obtained when a Board of Directors is comprised of talented and dedicated directors with a mix of experience, skills and background that collectively align with the strategic needs of the organization and the macro context and environment within which the organization operates.
Accordingly, STARS, through its Governance and Nominating Committee, is committed to a Board whose membership is aligned with the requirements set out in its Skills Matrix while aiming to achieve and maintain a strong level of diversity. For purposes of this statement, diversity includes, but is not limited to, business and industry experience, geography, gender, age, visible minorities, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, and sexual orientation.
In identifying suitable candidates for nomination, STARS will select candidates based on merit and the requirements outlined in its Skills Matrix while ensuring consideration is given to the benefits of diversity across the Board collectively.
The purpose of this statement is to express the commitment of the Board to a well-balanced and diverse membership that possess a strong balance of expertise, experiences, and perspectives to advance the STARS mission, while having regard to the benefits of diversity as well as STARS’ commitment to reflect the diversity of the communities the organization serves.
The Governance and Nominating Committee will periodically review this Diversity Statement and any related practices and procedures to ensure alignment with best practices and principles for diverse recruitment.
