I was so badly injured following a highway collision that I was marked as a fatality at the scene.
In addition to suffering broken neck, broken bones and brain damage, I lost 65 per cent of my blood.
I had never heard of STARS before the helicopter landed along the highway. Now, it’s hard to imagine where I would be without my crew.
Fighting back from this injury hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it.
I’ve accomplished so much. My experiences as a patient have afforded me the drive and focus to complete two undergraduate degrees in psychology and physiology/pharmacology, and I’m working on a master’s degree in equality studies. My dream is to have a career in rehabilitation medicine so I can help others the way I was helped.
Today, my husband and I are proud parents of two beautiful children, and we are building a life together as a happy, healthy family with dreams for our future.
None of this would be possible without STARS.
