Having started out as a grassroots program that helps raise funds needed to carry out missions for the critically ill and injured, the direct mail campaign has evolved with STARS throughout the years and continues to raise a significant amount of money for thousands of missions we carry out every year.

Today, STARS runs three direct mail campaigns annually:

  • Spring
  • Fall
  • Winter

In addition, Horizons, our STARS newsletter, is sent out twice a year. We also periodically send out a STARS survey, which allows us to collect your valuable feedback.

  1. Why is STARS sending me gifts in the mail?

Our fundraising team works diligently to track the success of our campaigns and we have found that when we include low cost items in our direct mail, we see a significant increase in the donations we receive back. The increased financial return easily covers the cost of the items, which then increases the amount of funds available for current and future missions.

  1. What if I only want to hear from STARS once a year?

Please contact our donations team and let us know how frequently we may contact you. We fully understand that some donors only need or want to hear from us once a year and we want to respect that request. Please contact us at 1-855-516-4848 or at donations@stars.ca.

  1. Does STARS sell or share my information with other organizations?

No – STARS has a very strict privacy policy and we do not sell or share our donor information with other organizations. We require detailed donor information to process gifts and support ongoing fundraising and appreciation activities, but your name will not be shared or sold to other charities.

  1. I want my donation to stay within my province, how can I arrange this?

Your donation automatically stays within your province unless otherwise requested. For example, if you respond to direct mail in Saskatchewan, your donation will fund Saskatchewan operations and needs.

  1. How do I change my address?

To ensure STARS mail reaches you at your new address, please contact our donations team at 1-855-516-4848 or at donations@stars.ca so we can update our records.

  1. I updated my address, but I still received mail at my previous address – why did this happen?

Mail may be marked with your previous address for the following reasons:

Change of address notification may not have been received by our office prior to direct mail printing dates.

Our lottery database may not have received change of address notification prior to print date.

In order to comply with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), tax receipts for donations made in the current year will be receipted and dated with the current year provided the POSTMARK on the envelope is dated prior to December 31.
