As a purpose and values driven leader, there is no greater way for Katherine Emberly to give back to the community she loves than serving as President & CEO of STARS. Katherine is a transformational leader and dynamic communicator with over twenty years of corporate experience across a wide variety of progressive leadership roles.
Katherine and her team have a singular focus – delivering critical care to the most vulnerable and sickest people wherever and whenever needed. Katherine is responsible for the alignment and direction of the organization’s strategy, building on critical external stakeholder relationships with government, donors, and key partners, and shining a bright light on the essential work of the team.
Prior to joining STARS, Katherine was President, Business at Shaw Communications and accountable for the Small Medium, Enterprise, Carrier Services, Partner Channel and Wholesale divisions. Additional executive roles held by Katherine include President, Business, Brand & Communications, SVP Marketing, VP Operations and VP Focus to Deliver (Transformation). Having experienced this growth across an organization, Katherine is a champion of building talent, providing opportunities to stretch and learn, and is a strong advocate for the innovation and talent across the Prairies that often goes unseen. A passion for people and purpose are the core building blocks for creating a successful organization.
Giving back to the community that has provided so many opportunities for her is important to Katherine and she sits on the boards of Alberta Blue Cross, Calgary Economic Development and Axis Connects. Passionate about equity, inclusion and diversity, Katherine finds ways to give all contributors a voice and ensures that doors are opening for each of us. Outside of the organization, Katherine volunteers in a variety of ways from Mentor Walks to Axis Connects to change the leadership landscape.
Katherine is ICD.D certified, has attended Harvard Executive Leadership and is a graduate of the University of Alberta. Based in Calgary, Alberta, Katherine escapes to the mountains to ski in the winter and hike in the summer.
