Dr. JN Armstrong is a consultant anesthesiologist in the Department of Anesthesia, Calgary Health Region, and an Associate Professor Emeritus of Anesthesia at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, Calgary Alberta Canada.

He graduated as an MD from the University of Calgary in 1981 and then practiced as a GP Anesthetist in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories until 1988. He earned his FRCP in Anesthesiology in 1991 and has since been on staff at the Calgary General Hospital in the Calgary Health Zone.

From 2004-2013 he was the Clinical and Academic Department Head in Anesthesia for the Calgary Health Region and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary.

In 2013 until retiring in 2022 he took on the role of Chief Medical Officer for the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) where he was responsible for the medical care delivered by the organization for the transport of the critically ill and injured across six bases and three provinces.

JN also has a strong interest in aviation and has been flying since 1973. He currently holds active Airline Transport Licenses for both Fixed Wing and Helicopters. He previously flew as a Captain for STARS and flies his own Cessna T210 privately.
