Kelby was 15-years-old when he suffered a significant leg injury during a hockey game. The teenager was transported to the local hospital by ground ambulance but it was quickly determined that he needed specialized care at a larger facility.
“They said I was going to need one surgery to clean up the hole where my bone came out and then another surgery to put a rod in my leg.”
One week after his accident Kelby’s team donated their gate fee and proceeds from the 50/50 draw to Kelby to either help pay for medical expenses or donate to a charity of his choosing. He chose to donate the money to STARS.
“I might have lost my limb if they hadn’t picked me up. Thanks for doing what you guys do. It’s really a miracle.”
